Yellow Week II

Scrap sewing this week has been all about yellows and golds. Such a favourite to brighten my day. I have completed my three Squared Away blocks for the RSC2018 quilt.

It has also been a week of great sorrow. Sixteen people, players, coaches and support staff, were killed in northeast Saskatchewan, when their Humboldt Broncos hockey team bus collided with a semi-trailer truck. It has brought out nation to our knees in solidarity and support. The call went out for comfort quilts, using the Take 5 pattern, and their team colours...green and gold. Following the #homboldtstrong tag, there has been ever iteration of that pattern submitted. Mine is not exception.
The completed quilt top will be graciously long arm quilted by Kim Caskey Custom Quilting. I will post pictures, perhaps when it is done next week.

On Friday I attended a very exciting class, Colour Class 1, taught by the brilliant colourist Wanda Cracknell. So many mind stretching exercises using our 3 in 1 Color Tool and Joen Wolfrom's Color Play.

This week I put the call out to my "Friends in White Satin" for scraps for a special project. My youngest daughter is getting married in August and has asked for a jeweled bridal bouquet. (there are 100s of images on the web if you want to check what others might look like) Because it has to built on a styrofoam ball, I want to cover it completely with white satin, yo-yos in particular. To this I will be adding costume jewelry: rhinestones and faux pearls to achieve a lustrous arrangement. I will post pictures as we move to completion.

A Passion for Purple

This new purple Carrie Nation block is going to be just stunning in our Rainbow Scrap Challenge quilts. And to think there are still 8 months/colours to go! Thanks to Angela at SoScrappy for her leadership with these.

Remember January = Blue? One of the projects that I took on was blue slabs and the creation of a slab quilt, so named by Cheryl Arkison, author of Sunday Morning Quilts. My friend Kerri saw my completed top and just knew that she wanted to use it to practice her LA ruler work. How could I turn down such an offer? Well, I don't think she needs much more practice. This quilt is now phenomenal (click on the photo for a closer view). Binding will be sewing on tonight.

I am sooooo close to having my RRCB completed. I showed it last night at my bee group and my good friends asked so innocently..."do you want to know if you have a piece in backwards"? Are you kidding me. So un-sew I did, and now I believe I have it. Not ready to show in the wider audience yet...but one day soon.

To catch up on other passionate purples, head on over to SoScrappy here.

Farm Girl at Heart...cont'd

# 80 Carrie Nation
This is such a light airy block...just love it. I was delighted to use some tiny amber coloured 1 1/4" squares from my friend Brandis, leftovers from a mystery class we took part in 3 years ago.  Is that too long to keep those tiny pieces?
Patio Lanterns that I made with my tiny 1 1/4" pieces from the same class. The Quilt pattern was called Trail Mix.
One of the other benefits of quilting is coming across a block named Carrie Nation. The discussion could end there, or I could Google this name and learn about the very determined woman from the American Temperance League that this block was named for.

This experience reminded me of when I used to collect stamps as a young teen and I wondered who was this Alfred Noble guy that was featured on so many of the Swedish stamps.

Keep on asking questions, keep on learning, keep on creating.
